Wyonne Kay
(Burt) Morningstar
Apr 6, 1940 — Aug 24, 2026
Crossville
Wyonne Kay (Burt) Morningstar passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 24, 2026. She was born on April 6, 1940, in Vinton County, Ohio, to the late Dwight Burdette Burt and Eleanor Almeda (Huff) Burt. Wyonne is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Robert Dale Morningstar; her daughter, Janet Marie Morningstar (Michael Aylesworth); her son, Steven Alan Morningstar, all of Fairfield Glade, TN; her granddaughter, Katlyn Beth Morningstar; her great-grandchildren, Leila and Lyric; her brother, David Burt (Phyllis); her brother-in-law, Garry Morningstar (Ruth); and many special nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight and Eleanor Burt, and her sister, Sharon Dianne (Burt) Weaver. Following her graduation from Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Ohio, she attended the University of Cincinnati—where, in a humorous mix-up, she was initially assigned to the men’s dormitory because administrators assumed "Wyonne" was spelled "Wayne"! As an Air Force wife, Wyonne managed relocations across the country, often with short notice, while raising two small children and supporting her husband through year-long overseas deployments to Vietnam and Korea. Wyonne built a distinguished 23-year career in civil service, rising through the ranks to direct aircraft operations and serve as one of only two women in command post leadership, ultimately becoming the Base Contracting Officer at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Ohio. Following her retirement from Rickenbacker in 1994, she served six years as Contracts Director for the Ohio Industries for the Handicapped (OIH). While in Ohio, she lent her talents as a member of the following organizations: Camp Fire Girls, Lioness, Hospital Twig, The Pilot Club and United Commercial Travelers, Ohio Historical Society and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. In 2000, Wyonne and Bob retired to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, where she spent 27 vibrant years as a consummate volunteer and community leader. She lent her time and talents to the Fairfield Glade Ladies Club—serving on the travel committee as a tour guide and publicity writer—as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), the National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), CMC Hospital Volunteer and Bread of Life Volunteer. Known for her writing skills she appeared in many local publications including being the editor of an early FFG Newsletter. Wyonne also brought immense comfort to local nursing home residents alongside her therapy cat, Missy. Known for her warmth, wit, storytelling, writing skills and social spirit, Wyonne was a master hostess whose themed tea parties were legendary club fundraisers. She was an avid player of Mahjong, Bridge, Hand & Foot, and Dominoes, loved traveling and shopping, and possessed a wonderful sense of humor—once belonging to a tongue-in-cheek "book club" whose members gathered simply to travel to restaurants and read menus instead of books. Above all, she was proud of her roots, cherished her Burt family heritage, and frequently reminded her 12 cousins that as the oldest, she was officially "the boss."
Memorial Service: Saturday October 24, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Location: Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church Refreshments and gathering to follow in the fellowship hall.
Interment: Burial will take place at a later date in the family plot in Londonderry, Ohio, returning her to the place of her birth as her final resting place.
In Lieu of Flowers: Charitable donations in Wyonne's memory may be made to Alzheimer's Tennessee or Hospice of Cumberland County.
