William (Bill) Herman Hinterman age 90, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 24, 2026. William was born at St. Joseph Hospital in Flint Michigan on September 1st 1935. He was the 2nd child of Arnold and Dorothy Hinterman. He had three (3) brothers, Thomas, Daniel and John (Jack) and two (2) sisters, Carol Mullaly and Susan Williams, all of Flint Michigan.
Bill attended Catholic schools for all twelve (12) grades. He was an altar boy for ten (10) years and graduated “Summa Cum Laude” in 1953 from St Michaels High School in Flint Michigan. Bill loved playing on the St Michaels football team where he played left guard but spent most of his time working or studying. Bill attended General Motors Institute (GMI) in Flint Michigan on a scholarship in Industrial Engineering.
Bill married Leonita Powell in 1953 and they raised five children together. Bill worked for General Motors in the Buick Foundry and Chevrolet Assembly Plants as a Journeyman Electrician and worked his way up to become General Foreman. He left General Motors in 1974 to start his own Electrical Contracting Company, Hinterman Electric.
Bill joined the Lutheran Missouri Synod when he married Deborah (Debe) M Ryan in 1981. Together they ran Hinterman Electric until he retired in 2000. Bill and Debe moved to Crossville TN (Fairfield Glade) and became members of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Bill donated his intellectual and technical talents for 20 years to the church’s Electrical and Mechanical facility maintenance needs and served as campus expansion advisor. He was especially proud of the automated HVAC system he engineered, supervised the installation thereof and subsequently maintained. In addition, Bill served as an Elder, Usher and Choir Member.
He also loved playing golf and hunting. He always looked forward to opening day of pheasant season and bowhunting deer in Michigan.
He is survived by sons, Charles (Sandy) Hinterman, Dennis (Tracy) Hinterman, Timothy (Kim) Hinterman and daughters Lorraine (John) Davila and Diane Kopec as well as fourteen (14) grandchildren and twenty-three (23) great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by brothers Dan and John (Jack) and sister Susan Williams as well as Very Special Nephew Robert (Bob) Hinterman of Saginaw MI.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Deborah (Debe) Hinterman, parents Arnold and Dorothy Hinterman, brother Thomas Hinterman and sister Carol Mullally.
Bill’s ‘Celebration of Life’ will be on July 22, 2026 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Crossville TN. Visitation will be at 10:00am, the service will be at 11:00am with lunch served thereafter.
