Steve Norris began on-air weather forecasting at age 17 for local radio station WAEW-AM/FM. Life-long friend Tony Perry recalls "I was on the air at WAEW radio on a stormy afternoon in 1976 when a young man called me and said 'hey if you wanna know what the weather is going to do I can tell you - I study a lot of weather".  Tony spoke with the manager Warren Dean - and suggested putting Steve on the air on a regular basis.  Warren talked with Steve and struck a deal for Steve to do an hourly weather update every day - and the rest is history"

In the past 46 years Steve has provided live weather updates on several radio stations as a certified meteorologist including his most recent position as staff meteorologist for 3B Media stations 105.7 The Hog, 93.3 The Ranch, Spirit 101.9 and 94.1 The Vibe.  Steve has also forecasted for several newspapers near and far throughout his career.  Steve has been featured on Knoxville TV stations over the years for his "spot on" weather coverage including being spotlighted by Margie Ison - TV Weather reporter for at WATE-TV and WBIR-TV.

Steve was quite an amazing man - meeting the challenge of muscular dystrophy since childhood. He never complained or even mentioned his physical impairments over the years - but was happy to talk weather.  And when Steve talked - people listened. For the past 4 and half decades there have been thousands of terrorizing storms of all types passing through the area when the only voice radio listeners could rely on for continuous weather coverage and comfort was Steve Norris. Steve was always prepared to tell the listeners what to expect and when.  Local law agencies depended on Steve's keen weather predictions and provided him his own emergency two-way police radio. Steve's radio handle was "Weather1".

Steve passed away at Cumberland Medical Center on September 22, 2022 after suffering complications from pneumonia.

Stephen Keith Norris was born January 19, 1959

He is preceded in death by his father Verrill Norris and mother Brenda (Brown) Norris.

He is survived by aunts Lorelle Norris, Jewel Roy and Gerry Story along with many cousins, friends and a huge following of faithful radio listeners.

Steve Norris will surely be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday October 2, 2022 at 4pm at Hood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1pm-4pm at the funeral home.
