Shirley Y. Bowen passed away February 20, 2020 in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida at the age of 84. She is survived by her son Jack Atkins and wife Sylvia of Mary Esther, Florida, grandson Patrick Atkins of Crossville and sisters Geraldine Copeland of Murfreesboro and Mattie Click of Dayton, Ohio. She was predeceased by her husband, Bobby H. Bowen, her daughter Kathy Phelps, her parents E.C. and Minerva Overstreet, and 11 brothers and sisters. Her first husband, Buddy Atkins, died in 1967. Shirley was born in the coal mining community of Davidson in Fentress County. She lived in Clarkrange and Crossville most of her life. She was a member of the Assemblies of God church and a pastor's wife for many years in Crossville. Shirley was an important part of her husband's ministry as well as a trusted prayer partner, counselor and example to many. She and Pastor Bowen spent several years traveling as evangelists, also. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 27, at 1 PM at Hood's Funeral Home, 2371 Highway 127 South, Crossville. Viewing and visitation will be two hours prior to the funeral from 11 AM to 1 PM. A short graveside service will be held at Green Acres Cemetery immediately after the funeral. Rev. Terry Allen will officiate. Hood's Funeral Home in Crossville is in charge of arrangements with assistance from Davis Watkins Funeral Home in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.
