Obituary

Roger Wayne Jones, 70, of Crossville, Tennessee, passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by family members on Thursday, January 9, 2020. He had suffered serious injuries during a fall at home the week prior and spent several days in intensive care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. Roger was born on October 8, 1949, at Oakdale in Morgan County, to Rev. Harold C. and Inez (Powers) Jones, and moved to Crossville in 1984. He owned and operated a masonry contracting company and helped construct hundreds of buildings at Fairfield Glade and the surrounding area. . Known as "Percy" by family and friends, Roger was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He and his son Chris made two bear hunting trips to Alberta, Canada. During the winter months, he enjoyed doing taxidermy with his best friend and brother-in-law Jerry Henry, and other friends. Roger loved to work in his garden and yard, and raise farm animals. He was a longtime fan of the Tennessee Volunteers and attended many football games over the years. Roger was very active at Pine Eden Baptist Church in Crossville, where he loved to sing in the choir. He also loved to spend as much time as possible with his children and grandchildren Zoe, Braxton, Maddie, Lexi, and Bella. Roger is survived by his wife Sue (Henry) of 35 years; son Robbie of Nashville; son Chris (Anna Eure) of Cumming, Georgia; stepdaughter Ginger Stingley (Jason) of Boynton Beach, Florida; stepson Kevin Woody (Leeah) of Crossville; brother Gene (Darlene) of Harriman; brother Stanley (Becky) of Oakdale; sister Becky Ruppe (Darrell Christmas) of Harriman; sister Connie Walls (Gary) of Kingston; and many loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and extended family. Roger was preceded in death by his parents and older sister, Linda Jones Appel. Roger was a loving father, husband, poppy, and friend to all who knew him. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020, from Noon until 2:00pm at Pine Eden Baptist Church located at 976 Genesis Road in Crossville with Dr. Tony Wilson officiating. Funeral services will be held at the church at 2:00pm. Burial will follow the funeral at the Hebbertsburg Cemetery. Pallbearers include Jake Henry, Brian Eldridge, Shannon Oakes, Cody Elmore, Brandon Elmore, and Ethan Carter.
