Polly
Whittle,
Oct 6, 1932 — Sep 22, 2023
Mary "Polly" Lillian Whittle peacefully entered into God's Kingdom on September 22, 2023. She was born October 6, 1932 in Rienzi, MS to James and Ruby Robinson.
Polly, beloved mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend, is survived by her daughter Mary Helen Hamilton and her husband Louis Hamilton; brother Thurman Robinson; grandson Louis Hamilton and his wife Claire Hamilton; granddaughter Jennifer Hamilton; and countless friends and family who were touched by Polly's life and legacy. She is preceded in death by her husband James C. Whittle Jr. (Jimmy).
Polly's life was defined by her love for the Lord, hardworking spirit, devotion to family, and service to others. She was born as the daughter of sharecroppers in Mississippi. When her mother passed away two years later, Polly went to live with her grandparents and aunts. After graduating high school, Polly traveled to Knoxville to attend Knoxville General Hospital School of Nursing. Working diligently through the program, she graduated as an R.N. in 1954 with top marks. After working in several places as a nurse, she settled in Crossville. She married Jimmy in 1959. Polly began working as a nurse at Cumberland Medical Center where she devoted many decades to compassionate service. In 1963, Polly gave birth to her loving daughter Mary Helen. A faithful member of Crossville First Baptist Church for many years, Polly's endless outpouring of love made her a pillar in the Crossville community. Polly and Jimmy were married for 50 years before his passing in 2009. Even after her retirement from nursing, Polly devoted her time to caring for others— especially her grandkids, who were the light of her life. In later years, when her health kept her from physically supporting people, she still gave so much light and laughter to all those around her.
Polly was a woman of immense integrity, kindness, and generosity. Her passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her loved ones. While her family mourns the loss of her here on earth, we rejoice knowing Polly is joyfully worshipping God in her restored, healed, heavenly body. The family appreciates your prayers during this time.
Visitation will be held at Hood Funeral Home in Crossville, TN on Tuesday, September 26th from 11AM to 1PM with funeral service to follow. Burial will be in Crossville City Cemetery. Flowers are welcome, and donations can also be made in Polly's honor to Crossville First Baptist Church.
