MERRELL TRAVIS CARNES age 70 of Crossville, TN passed away February 19, 2019. He was born October 19, 1948 in Flat Lick, KY the son of Lee Roy and Georgetta Simpson Carnes. He was retired from Flowers Baking Company as maintenance engineer. He was also a United States Army veteran having served in Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife- Sheila Carnes of Crossville, TN, sons- Steve Carnes of Crossville, TN, Nick Neal of Crossville, TN, daughter – Nicole Thorley and husband Dale of Farragut, TN, sisters- Sharon Valentine and husband Edd of Corbin, KY, Debby Haggard and husband Mike of Corbin, KY, Melissa Bailey and husband Bill of Pineville, KY and Brenda Kessler and husband Rick of Lakeland, FL and grandchildren- Kelsey Lee Carnes, Michael Steven Carnes, William Braden Thorley, Jenna Li Lan Thorley, Brian Scott Neal, Allison (Alice) Christine Neal and Shaelynn Hope Neal. He also leaves special caregivers Paula Pryor and Rebecca Ashburn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held Friday February 22, 2019 at 11am at Hood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Thursday February 21, 2019 from 6-8pm at Hood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Crossville City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully asked that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the Cumberland County Animal Shelter.
