Obituary

Helen Marie (Mathis) Crain ,86, of Crossville, went to be with her heavenly father on Friday, August 21, 2020. Helen was born on February 17, 1934 in the Sequatchie Valley. She was the daughter of the late Gene Mathis and Mae Brady. Helen was the wife of the late Oren Lee Crain of Crossville. They had 8 children while traveling the country for the United States Air Force. She was a talented artisan and enjoyed making crafts. She enjoyed making dolls and silk flower arrangements. Helen and Oren sold memorial flowers at the Crossville Flea Market for many years. She was best known for her spirited sense of humor and straight to the point demeanor.

In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her brother Brevis "Red" Mathis, and sons, James and Ronald "Ronnie" Crain. She is survived by her children, Donathan Crain (Laura), Emmett Crain, Patricia Wood (Richard), Anna Stanford (Bryan), Debbie Wells, and J.C. Crain (Vickie); brother Chester Mathis (Judy). Helen was a "granny" to thirteen grandchildren: Don Jr. Crain, Angelina Crain, Richie Wood, Kevin Wood, Colleen Wood, Tara DeVogt, Ray Jr. DeVogt, Gerren Wells, Hasheen Wells, Dakota Crain (Reneisha), Jennifer Stanford-Durham (Colton), Ashley Blakenship (Phillip), and Caleb Stafford (Kristin) and several great-grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to all nurses and techs on the 300 Hall at WyndRidge Health & Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held Sunday August 23, 2020 at 2pm at Hood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday August 22, 2020 from 5pm-7pm at Hood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mayland Cemetery.
