On October 2, 2020, Gene Medley went home to God, and to the many beloved family members waiting to receive him. For 93 years, he gave this world and his family his whole heart. He served his country in World War II and Korea in the US Navy. After he left the service, he worked many years as a manager for Sears, then started his own successful business in Crossville, Tennessee. His town knew him as smart, funny, generous, and kind—and he was all of those things and more to his family. He spent many wonderful days at Fair Park Senior Center, and anyone who played pool against him knows how much game he truly had! He leaves behind his daughters Charlotte Medley, Gisele Medley Redmond -Vaught( Dr. Susan Vaught),his granddaughter Gynni Redmond, (Joshua Boone), his grandson JB Redmond, great grandchildren- Anthony Mathers, Aften Boone, Liam Boone and Joshlyn Boone and godson William Gene Stepp. He also leaves behind his nephews, Gaither Medley (Dessie),Gary Medley (Kay), Kevin Medley (Debbie), Keith Medley (Diane), niece Cathy Oliver Terrill and many great nephews and nieces and their families. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Fair Park Senior Center, or to Metavivor to support ongoing research into Stage 4 Breast Cancer, a challenge faced by his granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Vantoy, and Monroe sister-in-law Della Medley and wife Stelmo as well as his special friend Ruby Elmore.

Due to serious health concerns within the family, the funeral service will be an outside service at Hood Funeral Home Wednesday October 7, 2020 at 2pm. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1pm-2pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Green Acres Memory Gardens. The family has respectfully asked that social distancing be observed and masks are required.
