Elizabeth Hollingsworth, age 92, was born to William Paul and Nelle
Bristow Davenport. She passed away on December 5, 2022. She and
her siblings, Willette Torian, Clara Jean Simpson, James Paul
Davenport, and Joanne Baltimore were raised in the Grassy Cove
Community. She graduated from high school in Cumberland County
and attended college at Tennessee Tech University. During her
college years, she worked as a summer intern in Washington D.C.
Elizabeth taught school for several years in Cumberland County.
In 1958, she was employed by the Department of Human Services.
Before retiring in 1990, she served for five years as the Director of
Cumberland County Human Services. She also earned recognition as
Director of the Year. She was a member of the Grassy Cove
Methodist Church and later attended the Homestead United Methodist
Church. Elizabeth was a member of the DAR and was active in the
Exchange Club. Cooking, gardening, and spending time with her
family were her favorite activities. She had a strong will to stay active
which she attributed to being able to live a long life with diabetes. She
is loved and greatly missed by her daughters, Janelle Seehorn Neas,
Mary DeRossett (Rick), grandchildren, Sarah Baker(John David),
Samuel DeRossett (Ashley), great grandson, Royce DeRossett, and a
host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at Hood
Funeral Home. Visitation is from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. with the service to
follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American
Diabetes Association.
