Cleta Mae Steele, 87, peacefully passed away February 21 at Hospice of Cumberland County. She was
born on January 2, 1934, and spent her early years travelling in support of her husband, Raymond (Bud)
Steele, who was in the Air Force. They retired to their hometown of Crossville in 1975.
Cleta was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served as Treasurer and Director
of Children's Camp as well as singing in the choir. She also volunteered with the Red Cross, NCO Wives
Club, the SMILE program, and the Rural Cumberland Resources among many others. She enjoyed
playing bridge, square dancing, painting, crocheting, and traveling.
Cleta was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Beulah Boatman; her husband, Bud Steele; her
brother, Carl Boatman; and her sister, Maxine Martin. She is survived by her children, Mike Steele
(Susan) and Lisa Terry (Carl); her sisters Mary Vandever, Sue Brown, and Anne Turbett; and her
grandchildren Matthew Steele (Laura), Rachel Napier, Nathaniel Napier, Maleia Terry, Autumn Terry,
Adam Steele, and Jacquie Aldridge.
A Celebration of Life Service for Cleta and her sister, Maxine Boatman Martin will be held Saturday June 5, 2021 at 2pm at Hood Funeral Home. The families will receive friends on Saturday from 1pm-2pm at the funeral home.
