BENNIE DEXTER WARD, 95

Graveside services for Bennie Dexter Ward, age 95, of Crossville, TN will be held Thursday May 2, 2019 at 11am CST at Mayland Cemetery. Please meet at Hood Funeral Home by 10:15am CST for procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday May 1, 2019 from 5pm-7pm CST at Hood Funeral Home, Crossville, TN.

He is survived by his son and only child, Michael Scott Ward of Knoxville, TN, sister-in-law George Ann Barnwell and brother-in-law Doyle Barnwell; and a great number of nieces and nephews.

He was married to Patsy Ruth Hood Ward, who passed away in 2004. Son of Rilda and James Calvin Ward, he was preceded in death by all of his many siblings - Roy, Mae, Mary, Conard, Lonnie, Duke, Sarah, Trusta, Fairy, Minerva, Lionel, Talbert, and Howard.

Born in Sugar Grove, NC June 30, 1923, the family soon thereafter moved to Cumberland County to the Creston community. Bennie served in World War II and was honorably discharged. He was always active in the community and involved in mentoring and coaching youth sports as a hobby until his retirement.
