ANNA LEE STARK, age 86, died December 25, 2018 at her home in Fairfield Glade, TN from cancer. She was born June 23, 1932 in Hulen, KY the daughter of Sudie and Ben Simpson. In 1950 she moved to live with her aunt in Ypsilanti, MI where she was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone Company. In 1956 she was transferred to Ann Arbor, Mi. In1965 she transferred to California Bell and in 1967 transferred to Alaskan Bell owned by the U.S. Government. In 1969 she returned to Ann Arbor and was reinstated with full seniority. After the divesture, she retired from AT&T in 1989 at Plymouth, MI with 39 years of service as a telephone operator. In 2005 she became a Licensed Associate Broker with USA Realty and retired from Gwen Realty in 2009. Anna was Past President of the Telephone Pioneers of Southeastern Michigan and received an Honorary Life Membership in the Communications Workers of America. She was Co-Owner and served on the Board of Directors as Secretary of Stark Funeral Service, Ypsilanti, MI retiring in 1990. She was a member of the United Methodist Churches in Ypsilanti, MI; Marco Island, FL and Fairfield Glade, TN. She was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International.
An outdoor enthusiast of many sports, Anna loved the game of golf, was a gourmet chef, enjoyed Piquino Cards, reading books, and the love of travel. For 15 years she enjoyed motorhome traveling. She visited dozens of countries as well as almost every state in the US. She loved the state and national park systems and served with her husband three months as a senior volunteer at Yellowstone National Park in 2000.
Survivors include her husband Len Stark, 2 step-daughters: Darby Ann Stark of Ypsilanti, MI and Sally (Gary) Penning of Marquette, MI; 1 step-son: Bradley (Mary) Stark of Ypsilanti, MI; 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother: Rev. Nathaniel Simpson of Burlington, KY also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, 1 nieces and 1 nephew.
Visitation will be 12 noon Thursday, December 27th followed by the funeral service at 1 PM Thursday at Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church. Additional services will be at Stark Funeral Service, Ypsilanti, MI. Visitation 6 to 9 PM Friday with funeral service 11 AM Saturday. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Ypsilanti.
